Clarity through tragedy

Krishnamurti- Who am I?

I'm a survivor of a major motorcycle accident that happened some decades ago and whenever I see wreckage and carnage along a highway with all the first responders there, my heart sinks.

Last night on the highway, as I was heading home in the soupy freezing rain, I could see a patrol officer's car lights flashing up ahead about a half-mile away.  The roads were getting very slick and this didn't look good.  As I slowly moved closer I noticed there had been a bad accident and a local firefighers' truck parked in front of the patrol car.  I stopped and prayed, my heart heavy.  I saw a smashed up 4-wheel drive pick-up truck upside down in a field with its headlights still on.  It looked like the man had spun sideways off the highway at high speed in his truck and flipped over several times.  The ambulance hadn't arrived yet and the driver looked to be somewhat conscious, laid out by the road, probably seriously injured, maybe near death, being stabilized by two firefighters.  I was in shock as well and had to recover.  My attention immediately went to this man and his family in support.  My prayers are on them now as a fellow survivor of an accident that almost ended in an abrupt departure from this world.  These kinds of accidents can begin happening in split seconds, usually resulting in death or severe, crippling injuries.  The shock of it all is incredibly traumatic to the person and their family.  In time we heal and move on but it can be a difficult process at first of letting go of the pain of it and realizing great things can emerge from tragedy.  If the family member died in the accident their spirit lives on and would desire for your joy and happiness, not sorrow and despair.  Appreciation often deepens through loss, one of the greatest things about being put in a position of having to let go of emotional attachments based in the past.

We are one family and physical existence is so delicate.  Through another's life and what they go through, I may see my own life and finally understand the purpose of our human existence.

Attention and Non-Resistance

Posted on Jul 31st, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

Shunryu Suzuki Roshi

The video I posted tonight is Roshi Shunryu Suzuki speaking about sound and noise and the difference between a resisting mind versus an accepting, loving mind.  I find this talk beautiful and posessing the universal truth of love and non-resistance.

When there is paying attention there is a noticing of positive and negative thoughtforms and emotions.  Funnily enough, many of us give way too much credance to the negative and almost disregard the positive.  Maybe the positive side of things seems disingenuous and phony when our inner state is angry, anxious, sad, or shocked and there is a need to vent, complain and rant.  Ranting is okay as long as you are noticing you're doing that and taking responsibility for your beliefs, emotions, thoughts and actions.  The move toward the positive and remaining honest is a great progression from the negative story-telling that makes you feel crappy, confused and numb to feeling love and truth.

Today, I ranted some because I do not like disrespectful behavior, however, I do not judge nor send any negative thought upon the person who is confused and negative.  I only expose their stupidity and send them compassion and the expedition of their own awakening to the truth of being kind and considerate.  Really it is up to them to get it and I do not influence them in any way.  One must be receptive to the truth of now and what is.

As Roshi Shunyru Suzuki would say it maybe I will be the arrogant, disrespectful person playing power trips while the other person is sending me compassion. Ha!

Truthfulness

Posted on Jul 23rd, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

We have witnessed how many people, including ourselves at some point, aggrandize, put down or compare themselves to others.  They are overly co-dependent, are opinionated, try to manipulate others with fear, criticize others when they are in no position to do so, or do not see how things really are.  They waste time in negative thinking patterns and self-defeating actions.  Relationships are usually dysfunctional and based in fear and comfort zones not on love which is fearless and real.

If you are someone who understands the power of being honest and the willingness to go through the fire and take responsibilty for your life this blog is for you.  In order to undergo positive transformation, clarity and earnestness are essential.  Many prefer to remain deluded and comfortable rather than go for all the marbles by asking the dangerous questions and examining every part of their lives.

There is an acceleration of energy and information sweeping the planet right now.  The old ways of fear and manipulation which belong to the dark side are losing their grip.  Love is infinitely stronger and is establishing itself into this world.  Be aware of what you create and always go for love and expansion.

Sun's Jedi sutras...

Wisdom is the action that's formulated and executed from love, in love and for love...from truth, in truth and for truth.

Life functions under truthfulness and selflessness.

A spiritual warrior as a self-aware being, has accepted the personal self dies and is born, not the omnipresent awareness which gives rise to and destroys all selves.  Understanding this removes fear and confusion.

A spiritual warrior recognizes and acts with sensitivity to feeling, virtue, kindness, compassion and respect based in a calm, quiet mind that has the capacity to recognize the truth on all levels.

They accept what comes with a calm and loving invincibility realizing that's all there is when all the games and dramas are over.

They effectively see through all ego confusion by first noticing their own confusion.  A warrior begins to dissolve their past harmful ways and delusions by noticing and taking responsibility for all their thoughts, feelings and actions.

The witnessing value of awareness sees things as they truly are free of embellishment and distortion.

The witnessing awareness and universal love are one and the same and all human beings have the opportunity to recognize it.

In the context of eons a human being's lifespan happens in a flash like the glimmer of sunlight off the waves of the ocean.

"The truth will set you free but first it'll piss you off"...then let go of your anger, accept what is right now and use the energy of anger to realize what love is.

Anger without peaceful inner resolution leads to the dark side.  Hold onto the truth, let go of anger.

If we could all take every man-made weapon and turn them into toys think about how much fun we could actually have.  It's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt.

"The force" is love.  May love be with you.

Who?

Posted on Apr 3rd, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

The 'myth of enlightenment' is now a common term amongst some folks.  It's a beautiful expression because it posits the question, "'who' gets 'awake'?"  or "'Who gets 'enlightened'?"

I realize many individuals are asleep to their own nature but the awareness (awakeness) is already there so the asleep part is our own conditioned mind.  That conditioning is due to belief systems and the emotional charge keeping the belief in place.  Language and our belief about its validity to describe reality is yet another detractor to understanding truth.

The truth is as it is.  It does not matter what anyone opinionates, authoritizes or discusses because this realization is ever-constant, intimate to all yet beyond all forms and ideas in all of creation.

There is no 'enlightenment' and to seek it is getting lost in another form.  The seeker and sought arise from the same awareness so why seek what you already are?  By doing that incessantly you are lost in the play of mind.  The mind, unless perfectly still and relaxed, is always doing something out of habit: seeking a partner, seeking escape via a higher realm of consciousness, addicted to pleasures, attracting perhaps comfortably numb and repeatedly painful experiences, holding to idealogies and words of a teacher attempting to emulate that teacher.  It's never David getting to awareness, it's always awareness as some form as either David or something else...really all things in truth.

Personally, I don't care whether people read this ot not, I put it out there and anyone who reads it can hear this with their heart or not.  It's not about me or you anyway.

This awareness is love and to 'lose' a loved one is impossible.  Someone is never lost, but perhaps it seems that way on one level of perception which is of the mind.  In the grander scheme of life there is no death, no time, no restrictions and mortality as these are all false constructs in a weird game current Earth humans get infatuated with.

Who 'dies'?  Who is 'alive'?  Who reacts to painful, stressful circumstances?  Who responds to pleasure?  What is love?  These are the tough questions that challenge the ego-centric thinking and ego-centric belief systems.  By self-inquiry, stilling the mind and opening the heart in appreciation one dismantles the emotionally charged attachments that gives the false beliefs power.  Beliefs are crutches on the way to understanding the truth and no crutch can give one the ability to stand alone in the truth of life, therefore, these crutches are useless.  Fall off the steps to Nirvana, jump off the steps to enlightenment and you realize the whole staircase construct was a mind trap.  It was something to occupy the mind with and useless to realizing who you are.

Our Rise To Power

Posted on Feb 10th, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

We are masters of the universe.  The belief we are sheep, dependant on authority, that love is painful, that life is scarce and we must work to earn our survival or possible success is a huge lie most of us have subscribed to for many ages.  Life simply is not this way at all, and we might have to play the game for awhile longer until we figure out how to live our life as we see fit.  Time is not the concern but how one manifests their destiny is.  We are gods and goddesses bestowed with all the gifts of heaven.

There is a conspiracy of corporate, government, academic leaders and they do meet in private to discuss their agendas and intentions.  It's not a big secret because anyone with half a brain can get the information about this or learn about the history of money and who funded what and when over the last few millenia.  In fact (not theory), this 'conspiracy' or network meetings have been happening for a very long time.  It's not exactly breaking news, it's just business as usual without humanity being the priority but special, vested interests that support the wealthiest and most superficially powerful people while directly or indirectly oppressing those who are not in the network.  Truthfully, there isn't one person or a collective ruling us as that is actually impossible, but these 'elite' do set policy and laws to try to control us and glean as much money and power as possible from humanity.  They have set up conditions so we are dependant on money or worse yet a credit system, fossil fuels, suppression of important information, corrupt political leaders to make decisions for us, laws that don't uphold the truth, policies that favor and support complacency and stupidity.

However, we are governed by our own spirit which is the same light that animates and creates everything else.  This spirit is infinitely creative, soveriegn, resourceful, abundant, all-powerful, brilliant, compassionate, life-giving and uplifting.  It is not some far-off imaginary reality for it IS reality itself.  It is intimate to everyone and expressed in the in an inexhaustible multitude of forms.  One powerful alliance of these forms is our own Sun and Earth which provide everything we need to survive and thrive.  Who implemented these instruments to take this realization away and enslave us?  Our own kind sold out and we did it to ourselves by giving away our power to organized religion, corporations, governments, militaries, and the belief violence is necessary.  We also believed 'God', the universe and nature to be separate.  We doubted our own peaceful power and beauty.  We believed the manipulative, fearful people looking for control of us that we had to have currency and a credit system so we would depend on someone else to provide for our needs.  We bought into the idea that we are insufficient, incomplete and require something from outside our natural sphere to fulfill our lives.  We've been hooked into this belief matrix for a long time over many eons.  It's the very reason our society is sick and slow to change.  Our own minds are weak because of what we have done to ourselves.

Shunning technology or industry isn't the solution because the internet, computers and many creative innovations have allowed us to connect with others, gain ideas, inspiration, entertainment and greater utility or ease of living.  However, this technology could evolve more congruently with our Earth so we are not polluting and impacting it anymore.  The energy technology we have in our midst would allow us to never pollute the air, rivers, sea and land ever again and give us unlimited, abundant power to create and do whatever we want.  It would impact almost every part of our lives and free us of the money and energy manipulation we bought into and has been imposed on us for eons.

Really, we were never enslaved, never in bondage, we just believed we are for too long.  Freedom is just an idea because we were always masters of the universe.  It's a matter of re-claiming it, learning about ourselves again, realizing life extends beyond our wildest dreams which also allows us to dream even bigger and wilder than before.  We do not need pain or adversity to become stronger, we need understanding of reality to realize we were already strong.  Isn't it time to let go of our own conditioned interpretations of our experience based on what others have told us so we can realize something we never thought possible?  Our minds can expand, our hearts heal when we have the time and space not occupied with petty concerns and time-oriented thought processes.  Time to embrace the paradigm I speak of, it's right here for us to realize and execute as individuals and as a collective humanity.  It is not just a dream but reality always.  The nightmare of negative conditioning, giving power away and past limiting beliefs are over.  We are no longer sleep-walking and the delusion is finished.  We are masters of the universe.

The Power of Expressing Gratitude

Posted on Feb 3rd, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

Forgive me if I sound grizzled, but I notice how often giving people get the shaft from others routinely.  I notice myself giving to people who don't deserve my kind gestures nor my time.  I have to say I'm a bit naive and stupid that way.  My discriminating power could be much improved.  I don't always expect a return from some people, as I realize they are incapable of giving back.  Others, however, are capable and easily could take the time out of their day to return the kindness but do not due to their own self-absorption.  This is not good behavior as it's selfish and disingenuous.  I'm not talking about a return favor, but a simple thank you is always a thoughtful two words to send someone who went out of their way to help out.  This shows one's self-respect and respect for others as a result of the former.  To forget to express gratitude repeatedly is not a random mental slip but a serious problem that will result in negative outcomes every time.

To always remember others who have given something to you for your benefit and upliftment is a great thing and should never be overlooked.  The reason people have so much neurosis and problems in their lives is because of assumptions, negative, self-defeating thoughts and lack of gratitude to those that help them.  The winners in life do not have these bad habits.  They have achieved a high level of functioning and command my highest respect.  Rare are these people. If you should know or come across such a person befriend them immediately, learn from them, respect them and listen to them whenever possible.  These are people who can truly help you.

Balance Beyond Earth

Posted on Jan 28th, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

The most important thing in life is finding out who you are then all else can be seen clearly including the way to true happiness. This is not any of your thoughts, your feelings nor your judgements about anything. None of that matters. Put it in the context of your personal self no longer being in the realm of Earth, the world or your little social clicks and familiars. I would say visualize your death but there is no death for who you are was never born. So we are just awareness without the world nor any of its memories we had while in the world. Do your personal concerns matter anymore? Maybe for the time being as a human in this timeframe. Eventually they bear no weight in the final analysis when 'you' as a momentary presence on this planet and the world you remember have disappeared without recognition. What matters now? You've always known the answer. This letting go occurrance is inevitable. Every being must understand how this happens at some point in life. It is nothing to be frightened or apprehensive about unless you just can't let go of some fragment of reality. Usually it's our psychological beliefs about how life is that inhibits the truth of what really is. Fear holds us back from understanding it which is common to all.

To create paradise everywhere an equilibrium and balance must occur on a psychological level for everyone, otherwise, problems at all levels ensue. One can understand one's thoughts, emotional habits and tendencies are not their own. They come from teachers, parents, family members, authority figures, famous and ultra wealthy people via media indoctrination, etc. Most of it is untrue because it came through a personal mental filter which came from someone else's personal filter. Are you willing to understand the truth about yourself and release the investment in what you are not? It is not what you've heard from somebody else or even from me. Without following through with our understanding of this we live like 'a mold on a sandwich', taking over something and then moving on to exploit and control something else, psychologically dysfunctional, confused and creating more imbalance. Self-discovery and clear understanding is often not blissful but frightening because the mind likes to resist the truth out of habit. It wants to find something familiar, to have security, to attach to a comfortable idea which sabatoges the ability to become clear and understand how life really is. This mental habit forged out of fear and laziness is the root problem which creates global ecocide, which creates warfare, which creates apathy, inequalities and injustice. It is this confusion that desensitizes us to the truth of what we are, to the natural and balanced way of living with the Earth and from realizing any happiness.

Embracing the Unknown

Across02

"Most people will choose unhappiness over uncertainty."

-Timothy Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Work Week

I can't overemphasize the reality of this statement. We do it to ourselves over and over and over again. The unknown is so amazing beautiful and yes, scary. Scary because we have to identify our fear and let go of it...then go do what we were destined to do. The unknown may not be in areas where we are already successful but in the areas where we meet challenge, whereby, one has to overcome boundaries and step into greater understanding of oneself and the workings of the universe. You can't just sit there in fear and paralyze yourself. Our lives on Earth are too short and full of opportunity to let that happen. Our society fosters victimhood and cruelty and that's disempowering. We can do, feel, enjoy, let go of and understand anything we want. Alot of us are already moving in this direction because we overcame our fear about something in our lives. I love the internet because it generates movement and ideas. We need that for our success and a re-vamping of society into a non-violent, beautiful thing. Uncertainty is a temporary mental hurdle, our happiness is far too important to delay another second.

Assumptions

Posted on Jan 12th, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun
The power of assumptions has lost wars, killed millions, destroyed lives over thousands of years. Most misinformation is assumptions, speculation or fabrication(embellishment). It's such a common mistake it's the reason there are so many problems going on in the world.

That aside, when there's real researching, investigating or just spontaneous clarity life is always flowing. If you can free yourself of assuming, you are going to be successful no matter what. Problems always happen when a person 'projects' their preconcieved ideas and opinions on someone, thereby, solidifying that person into something they're not.

From my experience, which has been rather extensive and varied even though I've never left North America is the silly assumptions people make about me. I have to laugh at it because I hear it from friends and correspondences all the time. It's okay and it doesn't anger me anymore it's just that the person doesn't have an experience to relate or compare to so makes this assumption out of habit like eating comfort food because it's an easy fix.

I step back from it and look at it. Inquiry is good here, why would someone assume this about me? Is it my mannerisms, how I look, what I write about, my artisitic choices, my age? Hmmm? I don't really care what people think that much but sometimes it perks up my curiosity as I am always looking to improve myself and how I communicate.  My own family sometimes doesn't get me and assumes I know less than I do. If they had just asked a question and found out then there wouldn't be this animosity.

Since I'm attracting it I must have made some assumptions about others myself in the past so I don't shirk the responsibility of my experience. On the other hand it's so commonplace there's nowhere to go where there isn't an assumption taking place. We drown in a sea of assumptions all the time. The only way to get through it is to clarify my own life. It takes some focus to achieve that and proper guidance to assist. I look for objective friends and people who are fairly free of making assumptions. They're a rare breed but they do exist and I seek their company from time to time because I can actually relax around them.

Assumptions create animosity, tension and is not wise, loving behavior. I realize we have to evaluate things and discriminate in life or you put yourself in danger or lose things that are important to you. So we make judgements hopefully it is on solid, grounded information not airy assumptions.

Sometimes I have to call the people close to me on their misaligned assumtions of me but it's too much work to change their mind so I just let them have their delusion. So be it, maybe someday they will see past the conditioning in their mind. 'That's how I was at his age so that's how I would be thinking or feeling right now.' Sound familiar? Yup, parents do it a lot and their children don't advance themselves with that thought dumped on them. It's like an extra thing that has to be dealt with unnecessarily. Why think like that? It ruins things.

Like I said, millions of people have died or their lives destroyed because of assumptions. In 1930s Germany, Germans assumed Hitler was saving their country when he and his fascist, ruling elite bankers were destroying it and committing genocide. On and on you could go about how assumptions screw us up.

The solution is simple, ask questions before you make decisions or pass judgement. This is your life we're talking about.

"If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut."

-Albert Einstein

True Power

Posted on Jan 12th, 2008 by David Sun : Dude, guy, man, mister, sir, bro David Sun

Powerless words, born of a neurotic mind, are flung across airwaves of empty promises of a better America and world, still confined to crisis management, superficial dreams of material success and small-minded solutions.

I have not heard the voice of power since Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his 'I Have A Dream' speech.  Those words come from the fire of unswerving love and I tear up every time I hear them.  It's not to say there have been others who have spoken or expressed themselves like that I just can't recall any other thing quite like it.  One must go deeper into reality to become a lighthouse like he was.

The neuroticism of society is due to mental noise, attachments to outward sensory attachments and transient dreams.  The 1,000 mile-an-hour mind racing, anxious, confused seeking a fix from the pain is a common dilemma most are inflicted with.

When the mirror of the mind is perfectly still, free of the ripples of noise it can reflect everything.  That doesn't mean you see the entire creation all at once, it means you see nothing just pure feeling, awareness and silence remain only.  To enjoy this witnessing even for a second is a great accomplishment.  Make no mistake, it's not God realization, enlightenment, awakening, etc. like so many people proclaim it is.  This is just witnessing awareness, nothing more, nothing less, nothing special or exalted about it.  It is just what it is...simple.

Even beyond witnessing awareness is unconditional love.  Love is the greatest 'thing' of all time transcending bliss, witnessing and anything else.  This too is most simple, untainted by an immature ego trying to control or get attention.  I say love like this is superior to stopping the mind or witnessing awareness because many people stop their minds with various practices, and out of those a small handful witness but all of them can still return to their immature ways having learned nothing about themselves.

Love shatters that egoic phenomenon from re-occurring.  It breaks down egoic pride in the most powerful way.  It dismantles all that until you're left with nothing to hold onto, nothing to escape into or from, surrendered, broken open and overwhelmed.  The fire of love is all-powerful.  It doesn't mean once you understand this you are self-mastered only that your lack of mastery is clearly understood and the real journey toward sainthood begins.  Love is humbling that way and disallows false egoic pride from digging in again.  This is absolutely what enlightenment, awakening or self-realization is because you can't go back into unconscious neurotic attachments and behaviors, and why would you want to?  They are mere shadows of life, completely unfulfilling to the heart and mind which are vessels for love and wisdom.  A true saint desires all beings to be happy, cared for and this truth to be recognized by all.
